Outstanding Kansas Citian Award
The Native Sons created the “Outstanding Native Kansas Citian of the Year” award in 1973. Later, this was shortened to the “Outstanding Kansas Citian” award that endures still today.
James Anderson Historic Preservation Award
This award recognizes a person who is not currently and has never been a member of the corporation and who has made a significant contribution to saving or preserving a significant, bonafide historic site or object within the ten-county metropolitan Kansas City area (Bylaws Art. II Membership Sec 1.2) over a period of at least two years. The person, either acting alone or as a group leader, has ensured the historical accuracy/fidelity of the preservation within the limits of practicality and cost with allowances for preservation restrictions caused by federal, state, or local laws, ordinances, or codes. This award shall be given strictly for historical preservation efforts carried out over multiple years.
NSDKC Service Awards
Each year, the NSDKC awards ceremony is conducted during the Annual Holiday Brunch.
Lee I. Pickering Award of Excellence
This award recognizes a member in good standing for five consecutive years that has demonstrated excellence in performance of his or her duties, commitment to a project, extraordinary detail and quality in the delivery of the project, and information required to complete the project, or assisted others in the completion and mentored them through the conclusion of the project.
George E. Hicks Award for Perseverance
This award recognizes a member in good standing for five consecutive years who has demonstrated commitment to a long-term project and that he or she has demonstrated hard work, patience and endurance until the project was completed.
Carl J. DiCapo Award Most Outstanding Member
This award recognizes a member in good standing who has demonstrated the most contributions to the Corporation’s growth and well-being. Suggested contributions: the member who brings in new members (at least two or more within the calendar year), raises the most funds, serves on various committees or works on multiple issues for the Corporation’s benefit.
Special Recognition Award
This award recognizes a member who has provided outstanding commitment, leadership, coordination, or resources to further the mission of the organization which is dedicated to the recognition, preservation and restoration of Greater Kansas City’s unique heritage.
